300th Podcast BBQ Success: BBQ and Bocce and Music (plus poutine waffles!)
Last Saturday Midnight Poutine got its BBQ on at Parc Jeanne-Mance. To celebrate the 300th Midnight Poutine podcast, started back in 2006 by a duo of indie music devotees, we invited our closest friends (you) to come hang out in a park with us, eat some sausages and poutine waffles from our incredible sponsors, strum a little guitar, rock some old-school hiphop on an actual ghetto-blaster (yeah, it dates from pre-2006, but we're over it), do a little slack-lining, have a couple drinks and do what every good Montrealer does on a Saturday afternoon in a park - be happy it's summer in our beautiful city.
Huge shout-out to our sponsors, fine food grocer Épicerie Latina whom you may remember from such epic butchering battles as "Paris vs. Montreal", Boulangerie Guillaume and Engaufrez-Vous who donated food and drink for the event. From Latina we gorged ourselves on spicy Chipolata, savoury tomato-basil, and mushroom-pork sausages. For the latter, think Qing Hua, but better.
Because a sausage shouldn't go naked Guillaume and Valériane of the city's best bakery, Boulangerie Guillaume, donated half baguettes - "sur poolish, cuisson légère pour que le tout agréable sous la dent" (on Poolish, light cooking so it's softer on your teeth, says Guillaume. Thoughtful.)
We decked out the cooler in our food providers' paraphernalia to share the love.
And last but certainly not least, the more than generous Engaufrez-Vous gave us a selection of their sweet and savoury offerings, including a "Poutine-stuffed waffle"! Apparently they had this waffle stuffed with potatoes, ground beef, mozzarella, and St-Hubert brown sauce on their menu last year but it didn't sell. No one at the BBQ understood why. They were the first food item to run out! I told Gaelle, the owner, that if they sold those puppies from a food truck down at Place-des-Arts she'd be rich.
The other waffles included mini blueberry, cranberry and chocolate waffle bites, thin-style waffles stuffed with honey, molasses or caramel, Liège-style borderless sweeties, and some over the top banana-chocolate stuffed oozingly delicious waffles straight off the griddle.
Members of bands we're had on the podcast over the year who attended the BBQ included reps from Honheehonhee, Leif Vollebekk, Sea Oleena, Ohara Hale and Gabrielle Papillon. Guitar stylings (and transportation) provided by Thomas Dunezat. Who did I miss?
Thanks, all! Here's to another 300!
