It's the El Niño version of the Midnight Poutine podcast. That means we serve up a warm storm of fabulous tunes for you. Actually, considering how sunny it is around here, we spend a surprising amount of time talking about snow this week. In particular, we yap about the delightful Under the Snow festival that fellow MP writer Phil was raving about earlier this week. It's one of Montreal's quieter (as in under-promoted) festivals, but it's well worth checking out. Podcast | Get the podcast here.

After the glorious anniversary celebrations last week (thank you so much for all the kind comments!), the show gets back to normal for episode 151. Well, as close to normal as we get around here. This week we feature some hidden gems, some old favourites, and a dedication to a tiny dancer. We also talk about the first annual Women of Rock showcase fundraiser just in time for International Women's Day. Podcast | Get the podcast here.

Happy Birthday Blue Skies Turn Black. The local concert promoter celebrates 10 years of bringing interesting, challenging, and innovative music to Montreal this weekend with a series of free shows up at Il Motore. Even though we're marking an anniversary of our own this week (Yay Episode #150!), we're babies in this city compared to them. Our hats are off and our glasses are raised for everyone at BSTB.Podcast | Get the podcast here.

Liminal, fragmented, disconnected. Live in the lost sandwiches existence between the past and the present, alluding to a cultivated nostalgia that is made intelligent by distance. As a whole, the exhibition questions what it is to be present, complete, missing.

It's a moody and contemplative set on this week's podcast. Maybe it's because we're worried about turning 150 next week. Maybe this is our mid-life crisis. Or maybe we're bummed that we weren't invited to host some kind of Olympic podcast, that we won't get a chance to own the podium. Whatever the case, our grief is your gain. Here's 15 stellar tracks to prove it.Podcast | Get the podcast here.

It's an ode to Valentine's day on this week's Midnight Poutine podcast. We cover all sorts of special showcases happening over the next few days, for the lonely or the lovers. And while we'd like to send each of you a special card that says "Bee Mine" (and there's a picture of a bee on it), you'll have to settle for this audio love letter (i.e. more ridiculous banter).Podcast | Get the podcast here.

Bravo February. You made it. And if you stay sunny and pleasant like this, we're happy to have you. The change of month seems to have brought its fair share of music to the city this weekend, including the 9th edition of the Féstival Voix D'Amériques (a tastefully curated showcase featuring spoken word, poetry and more). We also talk about livin' on a prayer, secret shows and spherical mattresses. Podcast | Get the podcast here.

I shiver at the thought of recommending anything that will make you leave the comfort of your toasty house or apartment today. But if there's warmth to be found in the city today, it's most certainly at Erin Lang's show this afternoon at Café Dépanneur. If you've never been, the mile end neighbourhood café is pretty quaint on its own (with delicious, warm beverages like coffee, hot chocolate and a wicked hot cider). Lang's intimate acoustic mandolin and guitar-based melodies will only add more charm to the scene. I first saw Lang at Pop Montreal a few years ago. Since then she's grown more confident in her sound. She's most in her element at cozy playful gigs like this one.

It seems like Montreal's various music scenes are finally, officially, back from the holidays. There are more shows this week than we can shake a stick at (yes, that was us you saw running rampant down your street, waving branches and other stick-like objects). Join us as we sift through the chaos. Making things even more exciting, a Concordia video crew drops in on the studio to film us "in action". They haven't said anything, but I'm pretty sure they're making the 4D sequel to Avatar.Podcast | Get the podcast here.

We're back with another dose of musical poutine for you. This week's serving is definitely one of our messiest in a while, since we try and add a splash of hip hop and power jazz to our regular base of rock and folk. Join us in our audio kitchen for another sonic concoction. Bring your own Slap Chop. Podcast | Get the podcast here.

Jean "Leclerc" Leloup has about as many personalities as he does songs. He's a prolific singer-songwriter-performer-eccentric who's well-loved locally, even more so since he "retired" from performing in 2003 (only to return to it shortly thereafter under different guises). Whatever he calls himself, he's worth watching. So Midnight Poutine sent out an intrepid special correspondent to snap some pictures of the singing wolf. Vincenzo D'Alto - a freelance photographer for the plenty of local and national print publications - was kind enough to compile this photo-based review of Leloup's show on Saturday night, Jan. 16. If you missed last week's gigs, Leloup is scheduled to play Montreal again on Feb. 12.

Happy 2010 folks. We know the year started two weeks ago, but the Midnight Poutine Podcast has been on an extended vacation (i.e. we're lazy). We're back though, and excited to get another year of delicious music off on the right foot. There are a bunch of good shows that promise to snap you out of your winter comas, including Igloofest, Indyish's Dance Mess or Indie Montreal's Grand Analog show. We hope your new year's resolution wasn't to stay home more often. Podcast | Get the podcast here.
