CONTEST: Win Mates of State / Black Kids Tickets

Here's a good win to start off your Easter weekend: get a chance to win a pair of tickets for the Mates of State / The Black Kids show at Cabaret on Thursday, April 9.

The Black Kids have had a big buzz around them when their first EP came out back in 2007. In-between touring festivals like Coachella, CMJ Music Marathon, Radio 1's Big Weekend and New Zealand's Big Day Out, The Black kids released their first full length Partie Traumatic in 2008.

As for Mates of State, the husband-and-wife duo has been around for a while. With six albums under their belt, Mates of State have been on tour with bands such as Spoon, The Anniversary and Death Cab For Cutie.

Along on this bill is Jacksonville's SUNBEARS!, a not so upbeat electro-pop duo.

Now here's the contest: last year, Mates of State were featured on the weekly radio show This American Life. In order to win, post a comment telling us what your favorite podcast / online radio show is (besides the Midnight Poutine Weekly Podcast, of course).

This contest will be closing on Tuesday April 7 at 3pm.

Ready, set, comment!

The CBC Ideas podcast is exceptional. Week to week themes can vary from tracing the roots of the secular movement from the Enlightenment to today, exploring the true nature of neandertals, or highlighting exciting medical research here in Canada. It doesn't pander but is still highly accessible - in short it is all the things that makes the CBC so great.

I would go with LesInRocks, the host is funny and the music he plays are all interesting new bands that I didn't know about. I always come with a new band to check out from that podcast. (Just like midnight poutine)

I'd say 'La Swompe', on CISM.

Are you kidding, people? The best weekly podcast ever (besides MP, of course) is the out-loud version of Dan Savage's sex advice column, the Savage Love Cast. Savage is brash and boisterous, liberally and hilariously offensive, and oftentimes completely on the mark in his assessment of interpersonal relations. As of late, he's been injecting a lot of politics into the podcast, which is a good way for me to keep up with the gay rights movement back home.

Speaking of which, I ought to win this contest because I'm also from Jacksonville. How many Jacksonville bands come through Montréal? Not many, I'm guessing.
