CONTEST: Win Intensive Care Tickets + Album!

Posted by Valerie / October 21, 2009

Intensive Care is a four-piece from Montreal and this show on October 24 will actually be the launch party for their first album, "Fairytales From the Island".
When it's time to compare them to other bands, the name Genesis comes up pretty often. Technically, they sound like prog mixed with all sorts of pop.

The winner of this contest will get a pair of tickets to the show at Casa del Popolo, as well as the digital copy of this new album.

Because one of the members got injured soon after the band was created - ended up getting their name from it - the theme for this contest is: music to listen to if you were to be in a hospital for quite some time. Any particular album(s) you would listen to the most?

You have until Friday October 23 at 2pm to post your comment.
Good luck!

"In Need of Medical Attention" - Joel Plaskett

I'd either get better or get committed.

I would choose Get Well Soon, the solo project of a German musician, Konstantin Gropper. His first album, "Rest Now, Weary Head! You Will Get Well Soon", is one of the best I've heard in a long time. It's kind of a mix between Sufjan Stevens, Beirut, The Notwist, Radiohead and The National. Not sure if I'd feel better after listening to it at the hospital, because it's quite depressing, but it's so beautiful!

I would listen to með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust by sigur ros, sigur ros because they're the greatest band ever and because it fits the depressed mood you have when you are at the hospital and this album specifically because it's more cheerful than the others (to avoid jumping by the window quand même :))
i'm just curious how are you going to evaluate the answers? type of music, proven music to help you cure, etc.

PEOPLE read your emails!!

The show is TONIGHT and I've emailed two of you but you haven't responded..

OK so I'll try something else here:
the first person who emails me their name at valerie at midnight poutine dot ca will be given the prize.

Please do it ASAP!

Bee: how I evaluate answers? Well I really just pick answers randomly to be honest.. unless there's one that I just really like.

No doubt. Don't be nice to women. That's what they have their girlfriends for. Although, just saw a famele friend's FB post about her BF's Infinite Heart and Boundless Kindness or some such, so there is context, context, context, repeat it until you are always aware of it! Also OMGWTFBBQ!

– I think it’s a personal choice really. They are both very closely matched distributions, using the same packages and all. I find Mint better for new users learning Linux, but it sounds like you have Linux experience so may not need that. My advice would be to try both and use the one which feels right to you. Everyone has different preferences. Since the software is all free to download, the only thing you have to lose is time. That’s not a definitive answer to your question I know, but only you can decide which feels best to you. Good luck! Anything else I can help with, let me know.
