A de-luxe apartment in Istanbul

Posted by Asmaa / January 4, 2006

tathayat.jpg In the latest issue of The Believer, they've enclosed the debut issue of a new quarterly DVD magazine called Wholphin. It's an almost-perfect mix of short films and shelved projects from people like Miranda July and David O. Russell. There is also an eerie animated film about some kind of pasha that harkens from "the golden age of Iranian cinema" (that would be the 70s, by the way). But perhaps the coolest thing on the disc is a helpfully subtltled episode of a Turkish sitcom called Tatli Hayat, or The Sweet Life.

It's a fairly faithful adaptation of The Jeffersons featuring a nouveau-riche Istanbul couple and their sassy maid. When you see the next-door neighbour pop in, you'll marvel at how Turkish casting directors were able to find someone with the exact same square jaw as Mr. Bentley. The plot (something to do with an anniversary) is rather inconsequential (surprise, surprise) and while the DVD features some pretty funny alternate subtitles from comedy writers, stick with the original version -- if only for the surreal feeling you've seen it all before.

I'm really enjoying the theme/design of your website.
Do you ever run into any internet browser compatibility problems?

A couple of my blog readers have complained about my blog not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Opera.
Do you have any suggestions to help fix this issue?
