The Fair's Coming To Town!

Posted by Dave / May 18, 2006

fair.jpgSettle down, we're not talking about the much-anticipated Monarchist Book-fair. It's the 7th Annual Anarchist Book-fair, the largest Anarchist event in North America, being held Saturday May 20th and Sunday May 21st.

The event kicks off Friday night at Club Lambi with the "If I Can't Dance Anarchist Cabaret!" If you're not going to be around on Saturday or Sunday, Friday night is not to be missed with a wide assortment of acts/entertainment:

If I Can't Dance Cabaret!
Friday May 19th
@ Club Lambi
4465 St. Laurent
doors at 8:30pm
show at 9:30pm
$ 5-7 suggested

-MC Extraordinaire Xavier
-circus artists Nene and Gabriel Boileau,
-the Boots Not Bombs dancers,
-digital body tactics by Tatiana,
-the crafted words of Ali Naccarato (lipzine) and Paula Belina (streeteaters),
-scenes from the play Red Emma,
-loud noise from the band Please Don't Put Charles on the Money,
-female fronted anti-authoritarian, anti-facist punk band Jeunesse Apartide.
-French Anarchist Mime (How do you know a Mime is French??)

Even if you're not (currently) an avid Anarchy Enthusiast, the $5-$7 cover is well worth it for Jeunesse Apatride and dancing alone (and did I mention the French Anarchist Mime?).

The Bookfair proper, part of the month-long Festival of Anarchy (not to be confused with Festivus) begins Saturday morning at 10am at 2515 rue Delisle (near Lionel-Groulx metro).

What can be expected at the book fair? Well, I'm glad you asked. Here's a run down of the schedule:

-Introductory Workshops to Anarchism:
Intro to Anarchism, The "New" Anarchism, Anarchist Organization Around the World and more...

-Kidz Invasion!: With Arts & Crafts, Theatre, Dance, Music-Making, Sports and Games for the kids (all ages);

...And various discussions on: Anarchist Parenting, Free School, Parents' Forums and more!

* Plus over 75 distributors, vendors and groups at the bookfair, from Montreal, Quebec, North America, Latin America and Europe.

Don't be a Chump. Come On Feel The Anarchy!
