DeNiro's Game.jpgWriter, artist and one-time taxi-driver Rawi Hage will read from his award-winning novel De Niro's Game on Tuesday night. A discussion led by a collection of bright literary panelists will ensue.

The story is about two men, longtime friends, caught in Lebanon's civil war. There's an excerpt of the book courtesy of House of Anasari Press, and a rather good run down of Hage, his past, present, and comings and goings by Montreal writer Kristian Gravenor on Coolopolis (scroll down a little bit), but here's what you need to know:

* De Niro's Game was nominated for both the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Governor General's Award
* Gaétan Soucy, another Giller nominee will be part of the panel
* De Niro's Game ranks #2,962 on sales, 2,960 behind Bloodletting and other Miraculous Cures, by Vincent Lam, which did win the Scotiabank Giller Prize. #1, interestingly enough, is an autobiography by Sidney Poitier
* He considers luck to be the most important quality a writer should have.

WHAT: Rawi Hage will read from his novel, De Niro's Game. A panel discussion will ensue.
WHEN: Tuesday, January 30, at 6:30 pm
