Artist Jack Dylan will be hosting Le Flaneur, an exhibition occurring August 27th to September 6th at the Red Bird Gallery, with the vernissage happening this Friday.

Flaneur is a term referring to "one who strolls about town aimlessly; an idle man-about-town," or as Beaudelaire saw it "a person who walks the city in order to experience it." And so, put on your best pair of shoes, dancing or otherwise, (oh yes, there may be dancing) and take a dandy stroll of Dylan's artworks.

This retrospective exhibition will explore the medium of the poster through a selection of limited-edition prints as well as original pieces. All created around the past five years, the works on display reveal Dylan's documentation of Montreal's cultural specificity. The artist chose to focus on the city's musical flair, relating it to the overall theme of Le Flaneur.

As the co-founder of performance venues The Electric Tractor and Friendship Cove, it is clear that Dylan is well immersed in the audacious, growing, and ever-inspirational Montreal music scene. Hence, he first became known for the original artistic style displayed on the posters he created for event promotion. Now, Dylan is a regularly published artist, creating illustrations for The Montreal Mirror, The Globe and Mail, and Toronto Life. He also continues to produce posters for popular local events, such as Pop Montreal.

The vernissage, occurring at the Red Bird Gallery, 135 Van Horne O., will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will run to about midnight. There will be a DJ spinning some great tunes, so feel free to shimmy and shake to your delight. Alcohol (wine, beers, and whiskey) will be for sale throughout the evening.
