Montreal Art House CTRLlab Presents Calendar Competition

Posted by Amie / November 11, 2010

FoudroyantCTRLlab, an artist-friendly Montreal art gallery and event space, is all about providing opportunities for emerging and established artists to both create and present their work. This month they're challenging artists to design one month of a calendar to be sold by the gallery. Fame and fortune there ain't, but your work gets out there, and you won't need to go buy a Monet calendar AGAIN this year. Or puppies. Who over the age of 10 buys those puppies calendars anyway?

Artists of any discipline that can be presented in the form of printable media (photography, painting, sculpture...some are not exactly printable, but they are photograph-able...) are encouraged to apply and 12 winning artists will be selected from the applicants. Artists keep the rights to their work and the $10 application fee is barely large enough to be called an administration fee.

In addition to the lack of money, winners receive a chance to exhibit their design at Ctrllab gallery AND get a free copy of the limited edition calender. That's 2 whole prizes plus 1 potential prize!

If you're an interested artist, here's how to apply:

1. Design ONE month of your choice and send it in the following format:

Print size is 6"x 9" double sided.
Total bleed all around is 0.125"
File must be CMYK.
Images should be 300dpi.
Embed or outlined fonts
High res PDF from your file - 2 sides in one file.

2. Send in your application and payment (go to the CTRLlab website to submit) before November 30th at 7pm ET.

3. Make sure you own the rights to the piece. Or supply a letter granting the right to use the image in the calendar. All rights will remain the copyright of the respective artist or corporation, but submission grants Ctrllab the right to print the images in the calendar.
Please ensure that you include any copyright information with your submission.

Honestly, it's a good gallery, and they're just trying to promote good artists, so submit if you can. It'll make the upcoming year a little more beautiful.
