THIS FRIDAY: Reality TV meets Performance Art in battle of personalities
It's tough to try and find the right words to promote something with 'Reality TV' in the description without giving off those same really awful vibes I feel when someone mentions Jersey Shore. And yet the latest project from Montreal live art collective MAP (Mind, Action, and Personality) has inspired me to write something quite positive about the Third Episode of their reality-tv series (named MAP: Season One), showing this Friday @ the Mainline Theatre at 9:00pm.
If the short youtube preview clips filled with bizarre neurotic behavior have informed me correctly, the group spends their time filming their daily lives and then edits and remixes the footage into something much funnier, much stranger, and much more intense than your average tanned-bro night club fight scene.
But unlike every other reality show ever created, MAP does not fake their reality and then tell you its real. Quite the opposite actually. The action is blatantly faked (there's a director who is also a performance artist), but its much juicier. And sexier. For example, this upcoming episode's description reads as follows: In Episode Three, desperate housewife Jessandra Jones and talk-show personality Taupra Waugh-Waugh run the Amazing Race.
So if you're into performance art and reality tv combining and making a hilarious child, or if you simple like things a little different, this is for you.
