Maple Syrup for a Cause

Posted by Amie / November 7, 2013

Montreal maple syrup Christmas fundraiser"Eek, that's expensive," said my friend mine when the vendor told her the price of the tin of the light maple syrup at the Atwater Market. It takes a whole lot of maple sap to cook down to syrup to make just one can of the sweet, local treat. Every maple tire come sugar shack season and every year-round stack of pancakes or crepes (Aunt Jemima has no place in Quebec...) comes with sugar-sweet luxury. But this fall you can buy the treat and feel gosh-darn good about it because part of the proceeds from sales of maple syrup tins with a big, red Christmas present in the shape of a heart held by a yellow, cartoon mascot named "Siropcool" are going to the St-Justine Foundation at the St-Justine Children's Hospital to help ensure that children and mothers-to-be receive a high standard of care.

Lincoln Popup Dinner Recap: Vegan Gourmet at Parisian Laundry

Posted by Amie / November 3, 2013

I know a lot of the population is into one-night-only affairs, but how many multi-course meals with wine pairings at cool places that may or may not otherwise be restaurants do we host in MTL? Lincoln thought we should have a couple more. Yes, the car company. Pre-dinner test drives of their new Lincoln MKZ and hybrid vehicles followed by gastronomic meals at restaurants Helena, Apollo, Chez L'Épicier, and finally one hosted by the vegan chef with wanderlust, Stéphanie Audet, and the chef of Restaurant Vallier, Alexandre Pulo. With Audet's capable friends both helping in the kitchen and manning the floor, the meal was pro all around. Here's how it all went down...

Bouillon BilkA drab strip of St-Laurent is home to the lauded modern French restaurant, Bouillon Bilk. POP Montreal Preview Podcast #4 - Sept. 28, 2013

Posted by Amie / September 28, 2013

pop-montreal-killer-mikeIt's POP Montreal weekend, which means the mixed salad at La Panthère Verte on St-Viateur will be all sold out, and Aux Vivres will be bumping. It also means a ton of great singer/songwriters and a couple of R&B-heavy, "dance the night away" events. And if you haven't stepped outside your front door, you should, because it's hot and POP is begging you to come out and play.
