(Attn: Spoilers)
Last Friday, I climbed up MainLine Theatre's dark staircase to witness The Mid-Life Crisis of Dionysus, an original theatre production rife with wine, women and song, written by Jeremy Hechtman and Patrick Goddard.

20100201-matt.jpg A week or so ago, I cut my way through the snow up St. Laurent to meet Matt Raudsepp. It was within the cozy, book-laden walls of Cagibi, leaning in front of a warm bowl of vegetable soup, that I spoke with him about the upcoming release of his album, The Midnight Candle.

(Attn: Spoilers)

Saturday, a pal and I shambled our frozen little selves this way and that around St. Henri, eventually ending up at the Centre St-Ambroise to see an 8:30 p.m. screening of The Room. We discovered that the best way to conquer the cold of Montreal's winter nights (aside from a steaming heap of poutine, of course) is by laughing uncontrollably (read: obnoxiously) and hurling a rather shameful amount of plastic spoons at a projection screen.

20100112-view.jpg One of the most iconic images commonly associated with theatre is that of the comedy and tragedy masks; a giddy, almost maniacal agape maw contrasted by the anguished, down-turned mouth of its juxtaposed twin mask. However, as I spoke to director Terry Donald and actor Matthew Raudsepp of A View From The Bridge , I realized that, ironically, theatre often serves as an unmasking of sorts, by exploring, revealing and challenging what it is to be human.

12122009-firetease1.jpg Last Friday, Malefice presented 'Firetease,' two uniquely choreographed burlesque performances at Club Sin (Montreal's longest running fetish event).

Inspired by cabaret, the dancers (Delvida, Jasmine, Morxia and Mlle. A Samantha) took on the personas of coquettish beauties and seductive femme fatales. The aim of the event was to showcase Malefice's hand-made fashion designs coupled with Mlle A. Samantha's choreography, and in a broader context, to promote the preservation of Club Sin, whose location is now threatened by the planned gentrification of St. Laurent.

20091113islands.jpg On Friday, November 6th, Montreal's own Islands appeared on Théâtre Plaza's stage dressed head-to-toe in white, bejeweled space-inspired garb, complete with matching white, ethereal glitter makeup -something Ziggy Stardust himself would have cocked his hip at in approval.

20091004-mono.jpg (Attention: Do not read if you are a MONO fan and missed their POP Montreal show at La Tulipe last Thursday, this article will only serve to inspire further glowering over the missed opportunity, motivate you to build a time machine, or astral project to a city where they will soon perform.)

Last Thursday, haggard as all hell, I slouched myself into my battered old trench coat, put on some garishly sparkly gloves I found lying around, and braved the cold (simply unreasonable for this time of year) on my way to what would prove to be one of the best performances I've seen all year.

20090925-haroldandmaude.jpg Going to the movies can be a bit of an ordeal. Will I brave the enormous 'cheapie' Tuesday crowds, which are so packed one can only slowly shuffle along like a Romero zombie? Will I suck it up and dish out the $10+ on a regular night for some breathing space? What time are my friends going? Can we get there early enough to grab seats together? Why is the popcorn so expensive? Fie!

Well, if you're looking for a weekly remedy for your desire to watch a film, without all the fuss, Tim Kelly's Cinequanon night is the place to be.

20090913-pains1.jpgSomeone once told me that I was pure at heart. At the time I was flattered, yet didn't know what it meant, and truthfully, short of the frightfully intense religious connotations the word suggests, I still don't understand the concept.
