Student rumble in Quebec City - Dec. 6, 2010

For those of you out there who are students (undergrad, grad, post-grad) or care about tuition increases, some serious shit is going down on Monday. As many as 44,000 students from all over the province will be gathering in Quebec City to protest upcoming tuition increases. You can hitch a ride on one of the many buses heading there Monday morning, or attend simultaneous actions in Montreal.

This is the first of hopefully many end-of-the-day news posts, and this story be a little gruesome, but raises questions about Montreal's cultures, and I'm sure someone will use the phrase "clash of cultures" before this story is through. So I thought it might fit with Midnight Poutine's M.O.An Afghanistan-born mother stabbed her 19 year old daughter with a kitchen knife this weekend in Dorval, possibly for staying out too late.

Rate my landlord
A new Montreal-only website, The Leak, lets you rate your apartment and your landlord, and leave a few choice comments in English or French about your experience as a tenant. The Leak functions like a snazzier looking, bilingual version of Yelp. The apartment and the landlord are given a score out out of ten points, though the more interesting part is the comment box where the tenant can describe the experience. There's also some basic information provided, like length of stay and rent.
