First Date Series: Jane
The First Date Series takes a look at restaurants in Montreal where you might want to go -- or might not want to go -- on a first date. Another find in Griffintown, Jane is a top pick for a first date.It seems to me that restaurants are becoming darker all the time. For some, candles and low lighting can make for a pretty romantic atmosphere. If darkness is romantic, Jane definitely fits the bill.

First Date Series: Chez Doval
The First Date Series takes a look at restaurants in Montreal where you might want to go (or not go) on a first date. In Part 4, we check out Chez Doval on the corner of Marianne and de Bullion, not a bad place to get to know someone. As you're approaching Chez Doval, the backlit plastic sign and somewhat homely exterior give you no indication that inside is a quaint Portuguese restaurant, ideal for a first date. Don't judge the place (and perhaps your date) by first impressions alone. Inside, Chez Doval is charming.

Design Pop Montreal: T-Shirts, Cupcakes, and Vintage
Bridiget Moser and Tyler Rauman: Pop Design T-Shirt contest winnersIt's hard to believe that Pop Montreal has been around nearly a decade. The majorly successful music festival takes place in early fall and has been expanding its activities over the years. What started as an annual showcase of independent artists, both international and homegrown, has since exploded to incorporate various film, art, craft, and design events all year long.
The Design Pop T-shirt contest was an open call for creative Montrealers to submit an original Pop Montreal T-shirt design. The designs, printed on grey American Apparel T-shirts, had to incorporate the familiar Pop Montreal starburst logo, and use only one or two colours. The contest culminated in a vernissage on Friday night at vintage clothing boutique La (Found)erie, where the two winners were announced.

First Date Series: Haute cuisine meets cabane à sucre
The First Date Series takes a look at restaurants in Montreal where you might want to go (or not go) on a first date. In Part 3, we check out La Cabane, an urban take on sugar shacking in the Old Port. Most of the time, first dates are more fun if you do something unorthodox, something out of the ordinary, outside the box if you will. In Québec, there are just a few weeks each year when that activity might be sugar shacking (or "sugaring off" -- completely accurate, if only with slight innuendo). La Cabane is a fairly cosmopolitan interpretation of the traditional sugar shack, and if nothing else, the site of a memorable first date.

First Date Series: Bocata in Old Montreal
The First Date Series will take a look at restaurants in Montreal where you might want to go -- or might not want to go -- on a first date. Part 1 takes you to the newly opened Bocata Wine Bar in Old Montreal. It can be tricky to find a restaurant that will facilitate good conversation while providing and a somewhat seductive ambiance with a semi-stranger. We think that Bocata might be just the place.
