City Lit: Roundup

20080211_book1.jpgIt’s been a while since City Lit: Roundup hit Midnight Poutine, but this week is kind of exciting, so I can’t not give you a heads up.

First of all, get ready for the 10th Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival, beginning April 30th and running until May 4th. The program looks promising! Be sure to take note of Montreal's small-publishing house, Longbridge Books’, first book launch. It’s a great idea to support local publishing houses, and the books they’re releasing sound great – not to mention, two of them are by Montreal authors ( Licia Canton’s Almond Wine and Fertility and D.C. Iannuzzi’s City of Sinners).

Speaking of Montreal writers – exciting news! Novelist Rawi Hag has been nominated for IMPAC Dublin Award, worth an incredible $160,000. Congrats!

This evening (April 16th) is a busy one! Visit the Lawn Chair Soiree tonight to hear novelist Cassie Cohoon and poets Joshua Levy and Aly D Musyrifa, and bring some of your own writing for the open mike that follows. Arts Café (201 Fairmount W) at 8pm.

Or, head over to the Jewish Public Library (5151 Côte Ste-Catherine)to hear author Gila Lustiger talks about her latest book at 7:30pm ($10/$5 members)

Thursday, April 17th, PistolPress is also launching its first book, which will be an anthology of “ruffian writers and artists” – definitely worth checking out, especially given the list of readers: David Bradford, Melissa Bull, Jessica Dolan, Deanna Fong, Chris Masson, David McGimpsey and Mike Spry. Main Hall (5390 St-Laurent) at 8:30pm.
