Honky Tonk Tuesday: Beer Ain't Drinkin'

Posted by Sara / February 6, 2006

Is there anything quite like getting drunk on a weeknight? I spent all of last Wednesday roundly cursing Cuban rum, my own lack of control, and Honky Tonk Tuesday at the Green Room. But I've got a sneaking suspicion that I haven't learned my lesson.

There's something about the allure of a Tuesday night pissup that I find irresistible: the spontaneity, the casual camaraderie, the few hours of pretending that I don't have to haul my ass to a cubicle in the morning... throw in some wicked country, bluegrass and rockabilly, and the next thing I know it's 4:30 a.m. and I'm trying to get some shuteye in a snow bank.

Midnight Poutine contributors, who have published the words "beer," "hangover" and "hungover" no less than 40 times in our short existence, and who hold informal séances and orgies at the Green Room on Tuesdays, can back me up on this.

This week, the always fabulous and frequently dangerous Marie-Elaine is filling in for the Big M (featured in the above photo, taken by local camera owner Dave Hill). Before temporarily leaving us for greener and hippier pastures, Mike booked a band to play, and although I don't know who it is I have been assured that they will rock our socks off.

The Big M owes me $2.50 and about two hours. That's all I have to say.

Yeah, much love to the Big M's musical knowledge, but no love to his booking skills.
