McGill Releases Banned Hazing Rituals

Posted by Scott / January 11, 2007

hazing-at-ASU-1937.jpgMcGill University just released its list of unacceptable hazing rituals. I guess they're a little sensitive about this for some reason. Please have a look at the list and consider whether you feel compelled to adopt similar restrictions in your own place of work, school, or home.

Note: none of these hazing restrictions apply to Midnight Poutine writers.

Unacceptable behaviour:
cursing
tattooing, head shaving, piercing, or branding
mocking or degrading any individual or social group
disrobing or appearing nude in a public or private place
engaging in, or simulating, sexual acts including or excluding others based on specific characteristics
providing personal service to senior members
breakdancing
making prank calls or harassing others
conducting interrogations
performing calisthenics not related to a sport
using rollerblades as recreation or transportation
deprivation of sleep, or food, or hygiene
paddling, whipping, beating or kicking
serving alcohol to minors
consuming alcohol or illegal drugs
staging drinking games or competitions
destroying, defacing or stealing property
supporting the maple leafs

NB: at least one hazing restriction not actually part of McGill's banned list.

Breakdancing? Come on, if you've got the moves, you've got to let them fly. Sometimes the rhythm just takes control

well that's exactly the problem! once you let rhythm take control, what's next? real emotion?

I can't believe "performing calisthenics not related to a sport" is really there. I wonder could breakdancing be considered at least in part a calisthenic activity?
