Urban News Round-up: Potholes and Trams

The mayor of Dorval is offering $6 out of his own pocket for every new pothole that's reported to the City from April 16-20. The person who reports the largest pothole gets $10 additional, and a "chicken BBQ dinner for four will also be offered for the pothole with the most character." You have five days to scout Dorval potholes before the phone lines open..... GO.

The Société du Havre de Montréal has reached the end of its mandate, and released its final recommendations for the Montreal Harbor. The recommendations include relocating the entire Bonaventure Expressway and replacing it with a boulevard and park space along the water to "reclaim the riverfront." Radical, and extremely costly; the plan calls for three phases to soften the blow.

The SHM's report also recommends the construction of a tramway to go along the old railway lines in the Old Port. The report claims that the tracks "can handle a modern tram service at minimal additional cost." You can see a rendering of the cute little tram on page 24 of the report. Sign me up for the first ride! And do go look at the report; it's full of interesting maps (like the one above), pictures, and renderings.

I actually skimmed the entire report. Fascinating stuff, really... at least, way more interesting than the work I was supposed to be doing this afternoon. Thanks for the post!

It really is a good report! The text is down-to-earth with minimal use of jargon, and the images are clear and relevant. Two thumbs up, SHM.
