This Week in Montreal Blogs- March 27th

Posted by Olivier / March 27, 2008

Ok, class, no awkward questions about where I've been for the past two weeks, let's get right back on track. Highlights from Montreal's bloggiest bloggers this week:

A blog we haven't featured yet,, is a good source for off-key cultural events happening in Montreal. Take their monthly Sugar Shack Mess, where a music hoedown is combined with pancakes and whiskey. My interest has been piqued. It's pay-what-you can, probably because no one has been able to figure out the market price for pancakes. Check it out on March 30th at 5145 St. Laurent.

Montrealer Marie-Louise Gariépy gives us another new blog, Video Qualia, where she posts one interesting video from the internet every day. Most of them are great finds, including this video about Bonobo monkeys, a species renowned for their ability to learn from humans, although their well-documented love of oral sex is probably self-taught. Also, check out this video to see the fun that can be had with a condom.

Montreal City Weblog reports on the upcoming presence of Woody Allen's jazz band at the Montreal Jazz Fest this summer. Woody apparently keeps the comedy to a minimum, meaning the show will be neither funny nor interesting musically. But rest assured it'll be a one of a kind mediocrity, like Michael Jordan playing baseball.

Fagstein expresses frustration over the fact that the recent anti-police brutality protest in Montreal was destined to be a big brouhaha between protesters and police. He has a good point, and I wonder if he'd say the same thing after I bring my two biggest Anglo friends to the Jeune Patriote meeting this weekend.

Montreal Metblog has a big scoop on the addition of bendy buses to route 535. The onward march of progress cannot be stopped. Except...Montreal's embarrassing bits are revealed by Le blogue de Richard3. So much for perfection.

Finally, Coolopolis reviews "Zarathustra Said Some Things, No?", a NY play doing a run at Theatre Lachapelle on Pine and St. Laurent. Kristian Gravenor even grudgingly recommended it, which takes a lot out of him and means he is likely still resting from the fatigue.

So that's it for this week, quick and dirty and bloggy. As always, let me have it in the comments if I've missed some good blogs this week, or if you want to defend Woody Allen's jazz abilities.

Your blogs about blogs are valuable in so many ways. Not only do they tell me, in a blog format, what the other blogs have been up to...

They also take the form of a combination of a psychoanalyst and a psychic. In one small paragraph, your blog dug deep inside my cranium to find that in my past life I was, and in my future incarnation I will be, a bonobo monkey.

Thanks Tessa, I've fixed the link now.

G, not just you, but all of us should strive to be like Bonobos, who use sex as a greeting, a way to kill time, as conflict resolution, and as a dispute settlement mechanism. Why are we wasting our time playing rock/paper/scissors?

glad you're back. i think we all, or at least i, understand an ides of march break.

meta-blogging is undeniably valuable. it saves time and uses bloggable space. glad you're back!

The Zarathustra play isn't a NY play, it's written by a Montrealer, performed by Montrealers, directed by a Montrealer. It was performed in New York a couple of years ago, that's it.

Thanks for the shout-out Anne. Extra points for Shakespeare.

Thus spoke Kelly. This blog is dead.
