If you're new to our site, The Week Without Poutine is a weekly column written by Luc Doucet (not the Toronto indie artist), where he discusses the going-ons of the Montreal blogosphere. Other blogs are not our competition; they're our friends. They enlighten us, they inform us, they enter us, they make us laugh, they make us cry. Montreal is a city with a lot to say, and we want to make sure you're hearing the best of it.

Here's what you missed this past week:

Our Founding Mothers and Fathers - Spacing Montreal
If you want to read an excellent article about how the city of Montreal is officially recognizing Jeanne Mance as a co-founder of the city, then check out this piece by Alanah Heffez over at Spacing Montreal. The other official founder was Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve, which sounds like the fakest name in history, up there with Jean-Francois Toronto Yonge and Timmy O'Sudbury de la Shawinigan

Let's hear it for the girl - The Goodie Life
Out of the blue, yesterday was the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day. Like, literally out of the fucking blue. No one had ever heard of it. There were no ribbons. No TV specials. Just straight social media. Here's a question: do white, childless men have any kind of special holiday? And don't say "Uh, every day is your day," because that doesn't work on me anymore. 20110308_mmpix_women.jpg

A Rob Ford in Montreal? - Spacing Montreal
Not gonna lie, Spacing was really on top of their shit this week. In this post, Devin Alfaro explains why Montreal will likely never suffer the same "fate" as Toronto in electing a shitty mayor, basically using the argument that we don't have as many suburbs as they do. It would be kind of fun though... just imagine if our municipal politics got even zany-er! 20110308_mmpix_ford.jpg

Free things in Montreal: March - The Montréal Buzz
If by "free things" they mean "obvious public events," then yes. Like the St. Patrick's Day parade. To be serious though, this is a good run-down of all the fun things we've got going in this, our final month of winter (hopefully). Siderbar: winter in March always blows, so hard. Need proof? Try to go one whole day without bringing up how good the summer will be. Just try. 20110308_mmpix_stpattys.jpg

Peanut Butter Ice Cream - Crazy Sweet Life
Dear Crazy Sweet Life, if my gf and I ever break up, can I move onto you? Your foodie treats look unreal good. Better than any bullshit banana bread with chocolate chips (yawn). Oh wait what's that? You have a baby? Uh... can I take back my offer? No wait. Kids are awesome! Yeah, I'm still in. 20110308_mmpix_ymm.jpg

Dating Site Matches Couples That Look Alike - Geekologie
Of course there's a dating site for this. Where was this site when I wrote the Valentine's Day articles? Bah, it's no Sea Captain Date. I also like that Geekologie wrote a post about this site, even though it has yet to go online.

Courtesy of MyModernMet. That website is fantastic. So much wonderful and inspiring daily content. 20110308_mmpix_kfc.jpg

Wait, you better be kidding about International Women's Day. "Straight social media?" I guess the UN has a lot of Facebook friends:
