Grinders Comedy Weekend at Theatre Ste-Catherine: Saturday, Jan. 21, 7:30pm
Know those cold Montreal nights when all you want to do is stay inside? But then you suck it up, brave the cold, and end up at a show, thinking, "Yes! This is worth it!" That's how I felt last night at the Grinders Comedy Weekend, Day 2, at Theatre Ste-Catherine.
Saturday night will be your last chance to experience some of Montreal's best sketch comedy featuring the English comics you maybe don't know yet. The show starts at 7:30pm, and while the evening is divided up into a few sets of sketch followed by stand-up, you don't want to miss what follows this opening video:
I can't promise that the stand-up will be amazing since it will be different material on Saturday, but the sketch is stellar.
And if you miss this Saturday's show, I'm going to bet that next week's play by Theatre Ste-Catherine's poet in residence and Grinder Comedy Weekend participant Peter Stevens, entitled "The Most Important Play You Will Ever See", will be equally if not more hilarious. Jan. 26-28, 8pm, same place, $12.
And if really feel awful for missing out on the improv segment of the show that happened Friday but isn't happening on Saturday, you can check out Stevens' long-form improv skills workshop happening for the four next Sundays. Same place, a whole lot more money, but a whole lot more laughter. And some education to boot.
