Fashion & Design Festival

Posted by Valerie / June 4, 2008

Sensation Mode is hitting the town again with a festival called Fashion & Design, taking place on the corner of the oh-so fashionable McGill College and Ste-Catherine. Starting today, the Festival offers lots of (mostly free!) activities to fulfill any fashionista’s dreams (and agendas), or simply for anyone to kick summer off in style.

First, tonight is the very interesting Montreal Loves Fashion, a runway show featuring close to 50 Montreal fashion designers, and two of the coolest Montreal music acts : We Are Wolves and Jordan Dare.

Kenneth Cole, Mexx, The Bay, FCUK, Foxy Jeans, Style Exchange, Levi's, Le Chateau, and many more will also have their own shows throughout the week.

The Fashion & Design Festival had a thought for gentlemen as well– Matinique will present a men-only collection on Friday at 8PM. Another event that might interest most males is the Bikini Village show on Saturday. Apparently, the theme is “Bikini Do Brazil”… in other words: Caliente.

Toronto fashion designers and the Montreal fashion students will also have their own runway shows, and the whole thing closes off on Saturday night with a performance from Mistress Barbara DJing next to a Lingerie Show (!)

The only odd thing about this Festival is the Eco Fashion Shows happening every day at the… Ford Stage? I mean, come on, I know they have hybrid cars and such, but still, they are FORD (and are not related to Tom Ford in any way). Too bad they were probably the only ones willing to sponsor an eco-friendly fashion show..

That's a good point, these events are key places for

I just came down St. Lawrence Blvd, and a few places
were already putting up their terraces for the Grand Prix
fest. (I think it's just the lower part, and they roll
things up Sunday night, only to put it back out the following
week or the week after, for the actual Sidewalk Sale).

It's the Mount Royal street festival starting tomorrow
(Thursday) a combination of sidewalk sale and art festival.
I find it is now a more interesting shopping street than
St. Lawrence, real stores rather than fashion and restaurants.

I can't say I noticed anything on Crescent Street on the way
home, but I thought they'd be closing it and having various
events this weekend.

All are likely key sampling places, especially the Grand Prix
stuff, but I seem to recall it not being uncommon for sampling
to take place in the vicinity of Crescent Street.

There does not seem to be a repeat of last year's June 1st street
festival on St. Viateur.

It's like Toyota sponsoring the Tour de L'ile. Supporting eco-events does not redeem you, earth-destroying corporations.
