Since I began posting this weekly entry a couple of months ago, my aim has been to illuminate certain Montreal cinematic goings-on that may otherwise have remained darkened. Only sporadically do I explore Hollywood films--not because I'm not a fan (Jurassic Park, anyone?), but because there's already a sufficient amount of media outlets in this city that do it for me.

That being said, there will always be the odd occasion when a Hollywood film comes along that I won't be able to resist plugging, no matter how much press it's already getting. Ladies and gentlemen I give you Knocked Up, the latest raunchy romcom from American uber-producer Judd Apatow, the brilliant mind behind much-adored-oft-ignored Freaks And Geeks, Undeclared and most recently the surprise summer hit The 40-Year Old Virgin.

Funny part is, I haven't even seen Knocked Up, so this is not a recommendation in the traditional sense. I rarely feel this way about a film before I see it, but I am certain that this will be one for the ages. Besides the fact that the critical response to it has been one of the greatest in recent memory, Apatow's track record speaks for itself. For anyone that has seen the man's previous work, you know what I'm talking about. He doesn't rely on overblown sight gags or ball-in-crotch slapstick to get his laughs. Rather, Apatow's comedic core is rooted in the mundanity of everyday conversations between a slacker and his friends, usually delivered in note-perfect deadpan by his crew of actors. He does obscure pop culture references like no one else. (Remember Seth Rogan's line in Virgin "Be like David Caruso in Jade"?)

The real kicker here is that next to all the laughs (It has been called one of the funniest comedies in U.S history by many top tier critics) we get what is (supposedly) a touching and sometimes even heartbreaking story of an average boy (Seth Rogan) who impregnates an above average girl (Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl) and, well--hilarity ensues. Bottom line is, with all the junk that our theatres are currently being inundated with, it's nice to be genuinely excited to go to the cinema. Go see this movie. Go with your friends, your partners, your pets--heck, come see it with me. I'm going tomorrow. If you don't love it, e-mail me and I'll give you your money back--maybe.

this is the first movie in a long time that i have wanted to see SO MUCH it hurts and that will make me laugh so much it hurts. even though i am not into pain, honest. the fact is, that truly funny movies are rare and truly funny, truly human movies even more rare. i have heard only good things. excited.

An honest thank you for your inciteful reviews. And surprisingly, I also think this film will be pretty damn good. What irks me is the other Hollywood movies opening this summer - Rise: The Blood Hunter??? I mean, c'mon... thanks god for montreal's independent spirit.

Your goal is to breed all the different dragons available to you and enter combat against
other player's dragons. The supposed Secret" actually fuels speculation, and it doesn't fill the "need of certainty" within the market place, which is present because there is no talk of a tangible product. Gone are the days when the evening, go out Night Weekend and hard rock festivals organized a burst of freshness and energy, which allows people to face the Blues on Monday, with confidence and determination.
