Laurel and Hardy

Posted by Melanie / August 15, 2007

In the spirit of the Laurel and Hardy tribute opening Friday at Cinema du Parc, I found myself looking up clips of the classic comedy duo. I can't remember ever watching them before, but it seemed like something I would like. (After all, could there have ever been Urkel and Carl Winslow without Laurel and Hardy? Does it really matter if this is the lamest, if not worst, example of their influence?)

Anyway, I posted this clip because it really threw me off. The comedy routine is one that has been repeated extensively, but the undeniably strange details, which I can only assume are aspects lost throughout the generations (Was it ever normal to wear sailor suits? Are they supposed to be in the navy? It doesn't make sense, but it doesn't need to because it's brilliant!)
It also added to my curiosity of what will be classics from our generation in the next 80 years. 90210 tribute? Justin Timberlake cover songs? Only time will tell.

The Laurel And Hardy tribute runs until the end of the month. Details at cinemaduparc.com

I respectfully dgarisee. Creatively changing recipes brings new life to food in the kitchen. I understand where you're coming from, but food grows and changes as culture does.
