Flim POP review - We Are Wizards

Posted by Jeff / October 5, 2008

So just so ya'll know Film Pop runs alongside and within the Pop Music Fest for the full five days of the festival, from October 1st to the 5th, 2008. With venues all over the city, alongside its regular programming and crossovers with the music festival Film Pop there is a number of co-presentations with Art Pop, Puces Pop (the arts & crafts fair) and the Pop and Policy IP Conference.

So for killing time to the shows in the evening, it's a really good thing to do. Yesterday I found myself in a regular film venue Cinema Du Parc for We are Wizards, a documentary about Harry Potter fandom directed by Josh Koury. Since the release of the first Harry Potter[a wizard] novel, fandom has gone beyond what anyone could ever have predicted. It has even spawned its own genre of music: Wizard Rock. In which the film is essential about. It follows multiple stories related to this genre as well as a slight focus of copyright vs fandom. Yet it is more entertaining for concentrating on the specific devotees and their outlets rather than on a greater thesis about fan fairness. One of the main stories is a band who may have created Wizard rock; Harry and the Potters. The film We Are Wizards will resonate with anyone who has ever wished they went to Hogwarts; and for those who haven't it will provide an inspiring and hilarious look into what moves fans to participate in this movement. It really is a fun film to watch[thanks Gen]. Here's a trailer for you all to get a good idea of the film. Sadly I arrived late, and missed the shorts playing before. I'd love to hear how they were from anyone who saw them. Is there anything I should check out? feel free to share if anyone has seen other POP movies or shorts? there's more today, I am excited to go check out New York based Jem Cohen's Master Class @ the Ukrainian Club today @ 15h00. Have fun today everyone!
