Preview: Grindhouse Wednesdays Presents Coffy

Posted by Christine / February 22, 2011

coffy-original.jpg Grindhouse Wednesdays is proud to present 1973's funkadelic, crime-fighting classic Coffy, showing tomorrow night at 8:00p.m. This, their ninth event, is also their first ever at the Rialto Theatre on Parc Avenue.

If you adored her stone cold fox demeanor in Tarantino's Jackie Brown, I can stake my good reputation on the fact that you'll love Pam Grier even more as a smooth talking, take-no-prisoners vigilante in Coffy.

Heck, if I can't convince you, the film's tagline will:
"They call her 'Coffy' and she'll cream you!"

The movie will be preceded by Amy's In The Attic , a short film paying homage to Italian exploitation cinema, created by local Matthew Saliba.

Early arrivers will be treated to a performance by Montreal's own Slut Drive and DJ Sarcastic's vinyl spins.

Tickets may be purchased for $10 at Kitch 'n Swell, Cruella, and Head & Hands.

As always, proceeds will be going to Head & Hands, an organization geared towards promoting the health of youth in Montreal. Check out more about them here.

Grindhouse Wednesdays is an exploration of exploitation film that takes place at various locales throughout Montreal once a month. It's run completely by a team of volunteers, led by Ben Godin. Check out their website for more information.

I’ll certainly miss you and Trixie. Maddie was born one week before Trixie and I’ve enjoyed watching them get big together. Even though my commenting has lessened, I’ve checked daily since close to the beginning. I would like to send my love to all of you. If you’re ever in the Pacific Northwest, you have a place to stay. (How weird is that? I’m offering my home to folks I’ve never met?!)Thank you,Maddie’s Mom (aka Kathy)
