The Gay Son Burger

Montreal's vegetarians quivered with anticipation this week over the debut of A&W's new veggie burger. This shit is meat porn for me: hot, greasy, and disturbingly lifelike, and I figured if anyone could do it up right it'd be Albert and Walter.

Midnight Poutine's entire editorial staff was present for the occasion. We grumbled about the broken soda machine, which was depriving us of our mandatory frosty paper cup of root beer, as we waited for our $7 combos. It sounded a bit on the healthy side but otherwise promising: a slice of Swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, and some sort of ranch sauce.

I quickly deflated upon discovering the nature of the burger--portobello! I choked down a single bite before turning the offending patty over to the Big M. What business does a chain like A&W have with a portobello burger? Their "meat" burgers are primarily composed of low-grade soy, so why's it such a stretch?

The filthy taste of mushroom has faded, but I'm still left with a bad taste in my mouth.

In anticipation of moral outrage from the humourless, I'd like to officially distance myself from the title of this post. Which, I'd like to point out, I thought of.
