I Scream, You Scream - La Lichette

There has always been one particular aspect of many ice cream shops that I have found undesirable, and that is the décor. The bright, pastel-coloured walls, the fluorescent lights, the pictures of cows and the ridiculous uniforms the staff are forced to wear make me feel like I walked into a six-year-old’s birthday party.

La Lichette on St Denis is my kind of ice cream parlour. The décor is by no means dreary or sophisticated, but nor is it reminiscent of a nursery. And of course, the ice cream is extremely yummy.

With light blue stools and two-person tables lining the wall of the shop, the ambiance has an old timey, back-to-basics kind of feel. There are a few pictures on the walls, but they’re not silly drawings of cows but mouth-watering photos of dripping ice cream cones and towering, fudge-covered sundaes.

The ice cream seems to match the shop’s décor: not too sweet, just right. It tastes homemade and the creaminess isn’t overpowered by too much added sugar or flavouring. Even if La Lichette was as cutesy as a cupcake, the ice cream would make up for it.

My favourite flavour so far is the green tea ice cream which had a very subtle bitterness from the tea. The black cherry flavour was just a little tart and really refreshing. I also tried a fudgy chocolate flavour which had a deep dark chocolate taste and wasn’t excessively sweet.

The prices at La Lichette aren't much different from those at Ben & Jerry’s, but in my opinion the Lichette staff are cooler. Case in point: two out of the three times that I visited the St. Denis shop, I received two scoops and only had to pay for one. That’s cool.

Ce pain est la synthe8se de tout ce que j'adore, la cannelle, les raisnis, les noix... il est magnifique et je le vois tre8s bien accompagner mes petit-de9jeuners. Et si, en plus, il n'est pas complique9 e0 re9aliser, je ne vois pas pourquoi je ne me lancerai pas ! Merci beaucoup pour la recette et toutes tes explications, je ne suis de9finitivement pas une de9esse de la boulange mais avec tes explications, cela fonctionne toujours ! (bon prof quoi !)... oh et e9videmment, comme d'habitude, tes photos sont magnifiques !
