Happening Gourmand makes Old Port eateries affordable (First Date Series annex)

Conscious of the budget-minded modern condition, she has (with one exception: see link) steered clear from the Old Port. This comes as no surprise. Old Port wine bars, bistros and taverns are often rich experiences - in more ways than one.

The 5th edition of Montréal's Happening Gourmand is your window for a first date she or he will never forget. Throughout the month of January, seven higher-end eateries open their doors to the common folk. With set prices at $23 or $27 per person, you are treated to a table-d'hôte that includes an entrée, main dish and dessert. A chance to try manhattan steaks, fried smelt, braised lamb millefeuille, duck confit, Spanish mackerel, roasted guinea fowl and other delectable dishes. Just remember to make your reservations ahead of time!
