Happening Gourmand makes Old Port eateries affordable (First Date Series annex)

Posted by Andrés / January 16, 2012

20120116_happeninggourmand.jpgIn her First Date Series, MP writer Tara has managed to make some great restaurant recommendations to impress that special someone. Conscious of the budget-minded modern condition, she has (with one exception: see link) steered clear from the Old Port. This comes as no surprise. Old Port wine bars, bistros and taverns are often rich experiences - in more ways than one.

The 5th edition of Montréal's Happening Gourmand is your window for a first date she or he will never forget. Throughout the month of January, seven higher-end eateries open their doors to the common folk. With set prices at $23 or $27 per person, you are treated to a table-d'hôte that includes an entrée, main dish and dessert. A chance to try manhattan steaks, fried smelt, braised lamb millefeuille, duck confit, Spanish mackerel, roasted guinea fowl and other delectable dishes. Just remember to make your reservations ahead of time!

Participating restaurants include:

Vieux-Port Steakhouse 39, rue Saint-Paul Est
Restaurant Modavie 1, rue Saint-Paul Ouest
Taverne Gaspar 89, rue de la Commune Est
Méchant Boeuf 125, rue Saint-Paul Ouest
Suite 701 701 Côte de la Place d'Armes
Restaurant Verses 100, rue Saint-Paul Ouest
Aix Cuisine du Terroir 711 Côte de la Place d'Armes
