Posted by Amie / March 2, 2012

Montreal Food Events March 2012A round-up of Pisco sour-making competitions, free bubbly, cooking classes, potlucks, and markets.`

Free Glass of Sparkling Wine and Snacks at Restaurant Zero8
For Women's Day on Thursday, March 8th this eight major allergen-free restaurant will offer bubbly on the house paired with a few nibbles. The offer is only good for members of the fairer sex, so accompanying men buy their own. A gracious lady could choose to pitch in.

And from March 2nd-11th, get $8 off the regular table d'hôte (starting at $21) after 8pm by mentioning the offer C8000-RELANCHE when you make your reservation.

Pisco's Birthday, Flair Bartending Demo, and Pisco Sour Comp, Saturday, March 10th
Did you know alcohol could have a birthday? Peruvian Pisco was apparently born on March 10th many a year ago. To celebrate, Club Latin Lovers at 6821 St-Hubert is throwing a birthday bash featuring the bottle-throwing stylings of Jean Vasquez, the first Pisco Sour competition between the following reknowned mixologists:

Lawrence Picard - Nectar Bar Design & Mixologie
Jean Vasquez - Flairfactor.com
Draho - Burgundy Lion
Gabrielle F. Panaccio - Mixoart.com
Taoufike Zrafi

and there's an amateur Pisco sour comp, which seems like a horrible idea - letting alcohol lovers mix their own drinks...I don't know. Seems like a recipe for bankruptcy.
All this followed by Peruvian dance and percussion demos, and a tasting menu from Mario Navarrete (the Peruvian owner of Raza on Laurier, Madre on Masson and À Table in Ahuntsic). Some of the event's proceeds will go to La Fondation Canado-Péruvienne Cordillera.

Marché Solidaire de la Pointe and Indian Cooking Workshop
This Saturday, March 3rd from 10am (while quantites last), Le Club Populaire de Pointe St-Charles is holding its monthly public market. They buy non-organic produce directly from Marché Central and sell it at cost to residents of the Point, which is officially designated a food desert. Also for sale are jewelry, bread, pottery, snacks and accessories from local artisans. 1950 rue Grand Trunk inside the Maison Saint-Charles. Volunteers wanted. Contact Chloe at cpc@qc.aira.com for more info.

Wednesday March 17th the CLub Populaire will hold an Indian cooking workshop at 10am. Cook first, eat second. $3. Call 514-932-1091 or email cpc@qc.aira.com to register.

Montreal Raw Vegan Potluck
Raw foodists, vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike converge on the Crudessence loft on the 8th floor of a giant warehouse on de Gaspé north of Laurier. $5 and a raw dish to serve 8-10 gains them access to a buffet or nut patés, un-cheesecakes, smoothies, and tons and tons of salads. Saturday, March 3rd, 6:30pm. 5333 ave Casgrain #801, but the door is often locked and you need to enter through an unmarked door on De Gaspé and wind your way through the building to the elevators before emerging to the zen loft of the Montreal raw food empire.
