The Week Without Poutine - February 2

Hey CRTC, I'm really happy for you and Ima let you finish gouging us for the Internet in a minute, but Egypt had one of the best Internet controversies of all time!**
All jokes aside, it's Superbowl week, and even though it has virtually nothing to do with Canada other than the fact that the NFL completely eclipses our Football House League, I want go give a big shout out to our hometown boys at EpicMealTime. Why? Because I will be making, and then eating, their insanely epic sandwich, "The Angry French Canadian", on Sunday to help celebrate America.
Alright let's do this...

The Week Without Poutine - January 27
Let's start this week with an appeal: WE NEED MORE BLOGS TO READ! Simply Google searching "Montreal Blogs" is not enough, and we need you (the faithful anti-Jeremites) to let us what your favorite Montreal blogs are so that we can feature them here! Please email me luc@midnightpoutine.com with some sweet URLs!Down to business. Big news this week in Montreal! Ben Cahoon retired from the CFL to the severe chagrin of the handful of CFL fans. He leaves the CFL as arguably the best receiver to ever play, which is kind of like saying someone was the best damn understudy to ever not-act on broadway.
Speaking of sports, check out Patinermontreal.ca, which I found courtesy of Montreal On The Cheap. This site keeps you up to date on which rinks are open and cleared, and which you can skate and/or play hockey on.

The Week Without Poutine - January 19
If last week's (and first ever!) The Week Without Poutine taught me anything, it's that certain Montreal bloggers have some serious Google Alerts set up for whenever their name or blog is mentioned. I'm talking like 20-minutes-after-I-posted-it serious. In other news, our plight to rid the site of the evil Jeremy seems to be working, as he was booted off the podcast this week. I'm sure all you "Luc Lovers" from this summer's podcast comment feed are yearning for my return, but alas I will have to decline the invitation to rejoin the podcast that I know Jeremy is all-too-shy to send me.
Since you would never cheat on Midnight Poutine, here's what you missed this week (this is kind of like your girlfriend showing you her hot friends you're never allowed to talk to):

We've had enough. It's time to take a stand. No longer are we going to put up with Jeremy's self centered podcasting and obsession with Erin Lang. It's time for us to share our glaring monopoly on the Montreal Blogosphere and spread the wealth (wealth = visitors).

Media@McGill Lecture: Barbara Ehrenreich's "Reinforcing the Culture of Optimism"

Journalist Barbara Ehrenreich doesn't like Breast Cancer Awareness teddy bears, motivational speakers, or desk accessories with slogans like "Go Above and Beyond!" written on them. She doesn't think that leaving post-it notes on your mirror that say "Love yourself" or "What you can dream, you can achieve" actually gets you anywhere, and she also doesn't particularly appreciate being told that she has a bad attitude. Although the instinctive reaction for glass-half-fullers like myself may be to dismiss Ehrenreich as something of a killjoy, her diatribe against positivity in fact delivers a poignantly truthful--and ultimately positive--message.

Gold, Dust and Power: Photo Exhibit at the Montreal Peace Festival
From the exuberance of World Cup fever in Montreal this weekend, to the loud excitement of the Francofolies, a much more subtle, tranquil event will also be taking place. June 17 to June 19 is the Montreal Peace Festival. It will be a celebration of the culture and politics of different regions, as well as Canadian efforts in public education and advocacy.
