Tuesday Tales: News for March 20, 2007

Posted by Chip / March 20, 2007

20070320_backhoe.jpgIt’s my fault that winter is back. I admit it. Last week, with spring-like conditions descending on Montreal, I complained about all the debris being left by the melting snow. Then, privately among friends, I went so far as to declare winter over. What was I thinking? Obviously I should have known better. Anyone with half a brain knows that winter here doesn’t end until summer – which starts sometime in May, if we’re lucky. Hey, at least I wasn’t that guy wearing shorts last week as soon as the temperature got above zero.

Here are today’s news tidbits to make your day indoors a little more interesting…

All the media coverage today is centered around the federal budget announced yesterday. With a pile of money being heaped on Quebec, every leadership candidate in next week’s election wants to take some credit for forcing Ottawa’s hand. Don’t worry about the budget not passing because of the minority government. Your friendly neighbourhood Bloc leader, Gilles Duceppe, has stated that they will stand behind the budget vote. Doesn’t that just give you goose bumps? The Bloc and the Conservative party working hand in hand to make this a better country…

Some Bank of Montreal customers on the West Island were victims of bank card fraud this past weekend. The banks were diligent in freezing accounts, but are taking their time getting the police involved…

Speaking of the cops, last week’s downtown demonstration against police brutality didn’t get too out of hand thanks to teams and teams of riot police…

Telus has joined the list of companies using a ‘green challenge’ to engage their customers. Not such a bad idea. They’ve included Mont Royal park in their plans…

A Montrealer has won the right to sue Coke over lands in Egypt once held by his family…

And just in case you were still interested, the Mile End YMCA seems to have come up with a solution that will please all parties in the ‘frosted window scandal’. The compromise involves windows with blinds, a novel idea.

I want to know if the Hasidic community is going to be reimbursed the money that they chipped in for the frosted windows.

Maybe it'll go towards the blinds? They can get expensive.

Next time you're at that corner, look right, and climb the stairs up to the gallery, ok?

You should see what that back hoe looks like from eye level!

Definitely assume that which you said. Your chosen reason appeared to be on the internet the easiest thing to be familiar
with. I believe that for you, I definitely get irked while people consider worries that they plainly don't learn about.
You been able to hit the nail upon the very best and defined out
everything without having side effect , people could take a signal.
Will probably return to obtain additional.
