Pop Montreal - Thursday Picks

This list is hardly comprehensive, because, frankly, there's just too much stuff. But here's some starting points, as chosen by Midnight Poutine's people.

Unless you bought tickets last week, forget about Interpol or Antony & Johnsons, which are insanely sold out and will probably be so packed that no one will enjoy themselves anyway. At least, it's nice to tell ourselves that.

Instead, check out Montreal's Chromeo at the Main Hall at 11 p.m., followed by Devin the Dude, about whom Pop Montreal honcho Dan Seligman just kind of sagely nods whenever his name comes up.

Consider also the Blocks Recording Club showcase at O Patro Vys, where a bunch of good weird bands affiliated with Blocks good weird founder Steve Kado will set up camp.

Les Breastfeeders may have the best terrible name ever, but they're also awesome: 70s garage and synth pop, male/female vocals and fun, fun, fun. They be at Quai des Brumes at 10 p.m.

And, of course, n'oubliez pas Billy Childish, mentioned in a post below, and, it is predicted, the potential show of the festival. Sala Rossa, midnight.

Also, check out the shows at Le Divan Orange - all start around 6pm and go until 10pm, usually with 3 or 4 bands. Tonight starting at 6pm, with one band an hour until 10: Panopticon Eyelids, Deadbush, Et Sans, and Dreamcatcher. Pack that Pop schedule, people!
