2005 Music Picks: Shades of Quelle Surprise

Posted by John / December 13, 2005

Midnight Poutine is hardly above making lists, but even more than making lists, this site aims to borrow other people's lists to avoid the hassle of compiling, mathematizing, and thinking.

To that end, I refer you to Aaron Wherry's thoroughly researched Canadian music blogger survey, which lists the 38 best Canadian releases of 2005 according to a bunch of people you've probably never heard of. There are few surprises in the Top Ten -- Wolf Parade tops the list, with the New Pornographers (by a single point), Broken Social Scene, Final Fantasy and Metric following behind. But there are some surprises, like, for example, that someone ranked Bruce Cockburn's latest as the No. 1 album of the year. Bruce Cockburn put out an album? Shows how much I've been paying attention.
