Single Of The Week: McAlmont & Butler "Speed"

After being dropped by their label halfway through the recording of their second official album together, David McAlmont and Bernard Butler parted ways for the second time - although this time it was under more pleasant circumstances. Thankfully, the songs that were recorded for that album were not completely lost. Upon hearing one of those tracks earlier this year, Rough Trade offered to press and release it. This gives us "Speed" by McAlmont & Butler.

Speed is a cinematic piece of music that builds in true Bernard Butler form. It really takes a voice like David McAlmont's to go over it and not be outshone. The lyrics may not be the deepest of the McAlmont & Butler catalog, but it leaves the listener with some confidence to get off their ass and do something (if even only to do the dishes). It's almost rare these days to hear a song that can change your mood completely before it's over. Straight up good pop songs seem to be what McAlmont & Butler strive for, and with Speed they have succeeded.

The B-Side to Speed is the instrumental version of the A-Side. At first this would seem to be a let down, however the song sans-lyrics provides a slightly different feel and is well worth the listen.

Speed is released on two formats, 7" vinyl and MP3 download (available through iTunes UK or Woolworths UK). No cover art, no touring, just one great track. The 7" can be purchased through Rough Trade directly and shipped to Canada. A clip of Speed is available at the following link.

If forced to give a rating, which I generally hate doing, I'd have to say a solid 8/10.

I believe what you posted made a great deal of sense. But, think about this,
what if you added a little content? I am not suggesting your
information isn't solid., however suppose you added a post
title that grabbed people's attention? I mean Single

is a little vanilla. You ought to glance
at Yahoo's home page and watch how they create article headlines
to get people to click. You might add a video or a related picture or two to get people excited about everything've written.
In my opinion, it could bring your website a little
bit more interesting.
