Crow Face @ L'Escogriffe - Saturday February 10th

That reggae bar may have not been the ideal place for a home grown rock band like Crow Face to play, considering that the staff kept coming over during their set to tell them to turn it down. The nerve. No worries though, band members Martin Lavallée, Mauro Pezzente, Marc Montanchez have set to play their collective asses off with a slew of upcoming shows around town this month.

Your mission, reader? Read this interview with singer/guitarist Marc Montachez from Crow Face, learn something new and go out to see at least one of their shows. You just may be taking part of the beginnings of something to write home about.

Where did a name like Crow Face come from? Like most band names, Crow Face got their name from basic free association and an admiration for fine feathered folk. “I used to dislike crows. Then I read about them and learned they are quite intelligent.” OK, but why crow face? “We wanted a name that had connotations with nature, plus described a little what we look like.”

Sounds like…? Think 70s stoner rock with a touch of indie-guitar goodness. But Marc puts it differently, “Technological blues music. I've always been a fan of blues music. I think it can be argued that to some degree, every electrified form of popular music derives from this source, conciously or not. It's not so much about the harmonic form (the 1,4, 5 chord progression) but about the method of communicating using a strong rhythm, tonalities slipping between consonant and dissonant in the space of a beat (creating a sort of emotional push/pull this is actually prevalent in a lot of non western-european traditional music, I believe), and a certain rawness or gut-level insistence in the delivery.” If you’ve managed to read this far you’re either nodding in agreement or starting to nod off. Synopsis? “Otherwise, people say we sound like grunge.” Just go check out their two songs on the band’s Myspace page, they sell themselves.

How did these three musicians get to be Crow Face? “Jamming. our first jam was a two hour non-stop squalor on top of a drone. It sounded quite good actually.”

Crow Face has already played with some top-of-line-talent. Namely, Boohoo, Plants and Animals, CPC Gangbangs, Thundrah, Hot Springs, American Devices, Crackpot and Panopticon Eyelids.

Discography?
The more a band plays shows, the more people want to take their music home with them. So far, all Crow Face has recorded are the two songs on their Myspace page, and on an 8-track tape at that. Don’t look for that 8-track on sale at any merch tables soon though, the band plans on (hopefully!) getting something out for us in the spring of summer this year. I assume the EP/LP will be on CD.

Father Omoray why Father Omoray why don't you prsteot G W Bush and his drug use, why don't you prsteot the fact that when we invaded Afghanistan ( under G W Bush ) that we didn't destroy the poppy fields that supply a THIRD to HALF of the worlds HEROIN ? This would have been a major blow to the war on drugs. Give me your rationale Parrot!! Do you need to go to the Golden EIB archives to find some talking points or will an old Hannity show do.
