MSTRKRFT & Boys Noize Bring the Tools @ Metropolis

It's Easter weekend, and most of us have been eating chocolate non-stop for 48 hours or so. What better way to spend all this energy than a wannabe-rave at the Metropolis?

MSTRKRFT and Boys Noize graced Montreal with their presence on Saturday night in the second installment of a movement which started with Justice last weekend. Boys Noize, also known as Alexander Ridha, is a German electro-tech producer and DJ, while MSTRKRFT is an electro duo from East York, Ontario.

While the party was supposed to officially start at 9pm, MSTRKRFT didn't actually hit the stage before midnight, and Boys Noize started playing a little after 1:30 am. Of course when I say play, I actually mean spin. This is a DJ set, not a full-band show.

The whole thing felt to me what it would feel like to be in a rave, minus the drug binge: very loud music, very trippy lights, and a truckload of sweaty people dancing their asses off. MSTRKRFT played some well-chosen remixes, including Justice's "D.A.N.C.E.", Daft Punk's "One More Time" and Kylie's "Wow", and tracks from their 2006 release The Looks.

Boys Noize also played remixes, including the beginning of "My Moon My Man" by Feist, and a solid hour and a half set of electronica, house and techno.

For fans, the expensive tickets was most probably worth it, but objectively speaking, for that price, I can go clubbing, buy drinks and still have a great time dancing to music I'm not familiar with.

Awesome show. My first time to Metropolis (which was a bit of an odd venue) but I had a great time!
