Radio Radio: Coming Saturday May 10th at Zoobizarre

Posted by Sarah / May 8, 2008

radio radioThis weekend, some folks from the beautiful province of New Brunswick are stopping into town to bring us a fantastic show of Acadian hip-hop. Radio Radio is an agglomeration of four dudes, including some members of Jacobus & Maleco, and they will be pumping their beats over at the Zoobizarre this Saturday, May 10th. I was planning on attending this show and offering you a review instead, but I won’t be able to attend due to some extenuating circumstances. I strongly urge you guys get a double dose of this for me and groove to the Radio Radio beats.

Radio Radio have just released their brand new album, Cliché Hot a few weeks ago over at the Petit Campus. The beats are phat to say the least and are sure to get the crowd bumping.

Personally, I have a hard time with the type of preaching that goes on in hip-hop these days : it’s either all about the cash, the ass or the grass. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but that’s just not really my thing. The clever rhymes these guys pull off are not violent or politically engaged, which is something I deeply appreciate. What you get is a lighter formula of hip-hop that’s all about showing you a great time, without the heavy side-effects.

Being an Acadian myself, I also enjoy hearing accents from home being thrown over some sweet dubs. It’s pretty unusual really, and the accent even manages to make me giggle a bit. I’m not going to get into the "what is chiac" questions or even go as far as saying that it’s cool because it’s chiac-hip-hop. It’s just awesome because it’s great music. Don’t forget to check it out this Saturday to see what it’s all about.
