Osheaga (Almost) Live Blog: Your Sunday Morning Roundup

The sky was a dreary gray and the site was wet and muddy but there was no escaping the sound: Osheaga kicked off this morning the deafening beats of Louis XIV, whose members were all wearing sunglasses for an inexplicable reason - other than being cool. That's exactly what this fest is about: showing off how incredibly different you are; to hell with the weather and the ridiculously priced beer.

Has there even been a different recipe for fun?

If you don't plan on hitting Jean-Drapeau until later this evening or tomorrow, here's a piece of advice: leave your pretty summer dresses and flip-flops at home. Rain boots were all the rage, and clearly the best way of getting around. Upon my arrival, I quickly realized that I was possibly the least originally dressed person on the island, in my head-to-toe black basics and Chuck Taylors. As the day progressed, I began to feel more comfortable in my meteorological superiority: light, flow-y skirts are nice, but not when you've got mud up to your knees. Sometimes, being responsible pays off.

Quick notes: So far, my morning favourites are Texas alt-country act Sleepercar (pictured above). You may know their lead singer as a member of Sparta. They were added to the bill last-minute as a replacement act, and their fragile, hopeful tunes were a perfect fit for this gray afternoon. And, after a seemingly endless twenty-minute sound check, N*E*R*D's set was worth all the wait. Pharrell Williams is positively a crowd favourite, and the feeling proved mutual when he brought about a dozen ecstatic girls onstage to help out with some dance moves. And the day has only begun.

Stay tuned for Metric, Duchess Says, Cat Power and The National Parks tonight. And, if you're sitting around and kicking yourself for not having gone, don't worry - there's still tomorrow.
