Get Your Votes In: GAMIQ 2008

Posted by Jer / September 2, 2008

One of the reasons Montreal (and Quebec more generally) has such thriving music scenes right now is because there is a constant dedication to celebrating the music from La Belle Province. It's a dedication that goes beyond fan support and talented musicians; it surfaces in the amazing number of accessible venues, the high-caliber local festivals, the steady endorsements from local music retailers, and on and on.

The GAMIQ Awards - The Gala de l’Alternative Musicale Indépendante du Québec - are just one example of a recent initiative to help strengthen our already-solid local independent music infrastructure. For the past three years, the award show has recognized the best and brightest in Quebec's music scene, bringing attention to well-deserving artists and uncovering new talent in the process. The awards recognize artists across a wide range of genres, as well as more general categories like Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, etc. And just like in years past, you get the final say.

Head on over to GAMIQ headquarters and click on the Let's Vote link. Scroll through the list of nominees (or check a few of them out below) and give props to your favourite local acts. 50% of the vote comes from the jury; the other half comes from you, the discerning public. Voting closes on Saturday, September 6th 2008 at 11:59PM, so get umm...rocking.

Winners will be announced during an awards show hosted by the actor Rémi-Paquin Paquin on Sunday, September 21st 2008 at the Corona Theatre (2408 W. Notre-Dame St, Montreal). GO VOTE.
