Erin Lang and the Foundlings @ Cafe Depanneur
I shiver at the thought of recommending anything that will make you leave the comfort of your toasty house or apartment today. But if there's warmth to be found in the city today, it's most certainly at Erin Lang's show this afternoon at Café Dépanneur. If you've never been, the mile end neighbourhood café is pretty quaint on its own (with delicious, warm beverages like coffee, hot chocolate and a wicked hot cider). Lang's intimate acoustic mandolin and guitar-based melodies will only add more charm to the scene.
I first saw Lang at Pop Montreal a few years ago. Since then she's grown more confident in her sound. She's most in her element at cozy playful gigs like this one.
Lang's finishing up a month-long (maybe more) stint at the Dep, and she's celebrating with a gaggle of local musicians. Among the special guests joining Lang and her backing band: Mark Berube, David Simard, Kristina Koropecki, Holy Oak, John Corban, Horry Leaden.
In hindsight, I probably should have written about her weekly residency sooner, but hey, I'm lazy. But even the tremendous pull of my own laziness isn't going to keep me in this afternoon. A few minutes of cold for an hour's worth of warmth...
