This week in concerts:

Monday, Jan. 18:
Tegan and Sara w/ An Horse, Place des Arts
Canadian twins Tegan and Sara are beyond cool. Their new album Sainthood, released last October, was produced by Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla, and was well-received by just about anyone. Fun fact: Australian indie-pop duo An Horse's song "Postcards" was used in a TV ad for the Mercedes-Benz CLC-Class in 2008.

Wednesday, Jan. 20:
The Breezes w/ Jane Vain and the Dark Matter, Frenchwestindies, and Ellis Steinberg, Casa del Popolo
Local band The Breezes will launch their debut EP at Casa this week, supported by Montreal acts.

Friday, Jan. 22:
Emmure w/ After The Burial, Miss May I, Terror and Thick as Blood, La Tulipe
Connecticut-based metal band Emmure will be playing along with a long list of equally intense and loud bands for all you hardcore lovers.

Saturday, Jan 23:
Switchfoot w/ Paper Tongues, Studio Juste Pour Rire
Do you remember back when Christian-rock band Switchfoot's video for "Dare You to Move" was on TV? That was circa 2003, or... seven years ago. Since then, the band has dropped out of Columbia Records' vice-like hands, and released a few albums. Their latest, Hello Hurricane, came out in 2009.

Saturday, Jan. 23:
Dinosaur Jr and guests, Club Soda
Alt-rockers Dinosaur Jr survived the eighties and manage to still be relevant today. In fact, they released their ninth studio album, Farm, last June. Whether they're still any good live will be for you to find out.

Note: This is just a quick overview according to a highly biased writer. There are plenty more shows out there that suit every genre and style preference. I personally use Stillepost (for smaller shows) and Pollstar (for bigger entertainers) for show listings.
