An Evening with Stars for War Child

Posted by Valerie / February 15, 2010

It's easy to forget Stars are from down the street as they are a well-established indie-pop band who tour all over the world - even Asia is crazy about them - but tomorrow night, these local sweethearts are giving you a way to be generous and enjoy live music. They will be playing a benefit show for War Child at l'eXcentris.

Stars have often associated themselves with charities like Motnreal woman shelter Le Chainon or wider associations such as Amnesty International. This time, the band is proud to be associated with War Child, one of the most music-oriented fund raising organizations out there.

Last year, War Child put up an album named Heroes where bands were invited to play a song from an artist that inspired them. This Heroes project created interesting realizations, such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs playing The Ramones, TV on the Radio playing Bowie, and more.

Stars have made some great cover songs too like The Smith's This Charming Man and The Progue's Fairytale of NY. This cover songs topic is very popular amongst Stars members who constantly try to come up with a good cover to play. A Bruce Springsteen song might be in the works for Stars, perhaps they will play it at the show tomorrow?

Although their schedules are frequently busy with other band Broken Social Scene, Amy Millan's solo career she's pursued for years, Torquil Campbell who plays in Memphis and in solo under the name " Dead Child Star" (not to mention his performances as an actor), the Stars project remains a priority for all members. They are presently working on a new album that should come out before the end of the year.

Not many shows have been on their agenda recently so they are pretty nervous for this upcoming performance. I've been told some friends might be joining on stage but no names have been provided - a surprise is a surprise!

Tickets are $25 and for a little extra, you can purchase a VIP ticket that includes a special after show meet and greet with band members. Not that many bands take this very cool initiative, so if you're a Stars fan, please grab this opportunity and help a good cause at the same time!

Thanks to Patrick McGee for the interview
