The music throwdown - Yeasayer @ Le National
Shannon H. Myers it at it again: two days ago, she checked out Yeasayer and Sleigh Bells make it a party at Le National, and took some great shots while she was there. Can you say pretty in pink?
There's nothing sexier than a female lead who throws down. Unless, of course, she also thrashes her body around the stage like a metal goddess. Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells, who also holds the title of 'schoolmarm', left audience members excitedly stunned with the help of Derek Miller's thrashing guitar.
I initiated a bet with the group of teenage boys around me as to what Yeasayer's first song would be. My guess was "Ambling Arp". I lost when they opened instead with "The Children", the first track of February's release, Odd Blood. But with that song, really, no one loses.
Constantly joking throughout the set, Chris Keating announced that his first girlfriend was from Montreal and asked if she was in the audience. "No? OK well this next song is about her. It's not, but we're going to say it is," he announced before breaking into "I Remember".
When the sonic scapes of "Ambling Arp" started forming as the last song, it was with pure instinct that I pulled out my phone and dialed my sister. It was her sweet sixteenth birthday and the mix CD I sent her featured the very same song. It was with great pleasure that I looked at the screen to see that she was still connected for the whole thing. Then after, she texted "Thanks! Who is this?"
