Preview: Jenn Grant, David Martel and Laurent Bourque TONIGHT @ Divan Orange

Jenn Grant Divan Orange Montreal HotIt's reading week, which means that all of you students out there should have a bit more time in your schedules to squeeze in a Thursday night show at le Divan Orange. It is your number one duty, after all, to fight cabin fever and recharge before taking on the tail end of the school year. And this show will do just that - fill you up with music good enough to make you forget that it's cold outside and that spring is going to start ignoring Mother Nature's calls.

Jenn Grant is said to embody "the naked melancholy of roots, and the shimmering effervescence of vintage AM pop." I really love Jenn's style and have been a fan of her graceful voice and her beautiful lyrics for several years. When I listen to her songs, she's like my very own feel-good soundtrack. Here's a sample of her music from a recent appearance on Jian Gomeshi's "Q":Appearing tonight alongside Ms. Grant will be David Martel and Laurent Bourque, who are no less worthy of seeing live. Altogether, it should be a warm and pleasant evening at le Divan; warm enough to cure you of your cabin fever symptoms.

Advance tickets are $8 or 4 for $29 at www.indiemontreal.ca. $8 tickets (but not the group packs) are available at Cheap Thrills and Atom Heart record stores. Tickets will be $10 at the door (if not sold out).

Doors open at 8:30 pm and the music starts at 9:00 pm.

I buy my fabric and Jo Ann's, Hobby Lobby, and every once in a while a selpiacty quilt shop if it is on sale. Mostly, though I quilt the fabric myself. However, you do not have to use quilted fabric to make these doll carriers. You could use a heavier weight home dec fabric (printed duck cloth from the bolt), embellished denim fabric, or a combination of calico prints that have a layer of batting between them. I hope this helps you with your project.Lori
