Listen to Midnight Poutine on Icelandic Radio
The past week has left me full of nostalgia for my trips to Iceland, as I've watched updates from last weekend's Airwaves Festival over Twitter and Facebook and various blogs. I thought I would join the party from afar by posting a recording of my appearance on Icelandic radio from this past summer. It happened because my friend Óli Dóri, who I met exploring Iceland's scene two summers ago, has a weekly radio show called Straumur that features brand new and interesting tunes from all over the world. The basic resemblance to the Midnight Poutine Podcast is not lost on us, so we thought we should use the rare occasion of our being in the same place for a little collaboration. Óli had me on his show and we spent 30 minutes talking about the Montreal music scene and playing (then) new songs by a few of the city's finest artists. In light of all the activity in Reykjavík last weekend, I thought it a proper time to post a recording of our evening in the studio together.

The whole two hours is here, Icelandic banter and all. My bit starts at about 1:30:00 if you want to skip straight to it. If listening directly from this website, you will have to let the player load for about a minute before accessing that part of the recording. I highly suggest checking out Óli's show online if you like what you hear here. As for my contribution, anyone familiar with the podcast will recognize these artists as some of our favourites. Sean Nicholas Savage did an in-studio performance last spring and Honheehonhee will be doing one this Wednesday.
These are the songs we played during my bit:
Sean Nicholas Savage - Can't Get My Mind Off You
Majical Cloudz - Dream World
Majical Cloudz - Francisco
Honheehonhee - A. Is For Animal
For those who don't know, Airwaves is a music festival held in Reykjavík every October that features tons of (mostly-) indie artists from Iceland and all over the world. For a long weekend, virtually every available space, from bars to people's living rooms, turns into a concert venue and hosts dozens of official and unofficial shows that go all day and night. It's sort of like Pop Montreal, but more compact, more energetic, and in the middle of one of the most beautiful countries in the world. More and more Montreal artists are making their way to Airwaves every year, with this edition featuring performances by Young Galaxy, Suuns, tUnE-yArDs, and Leif Vollebekk. I'm sad I missed it, but one day I'll be there...
