Preview: Let Suuns Light Up Your Thursday at Il Motore

Step out of your week and into a soldered psychedelic electro vortex tomorrow at Il Motore (179 Jean Talon W). The lineup is a veritable who's who of Canadian experimental, featuring Montréal's Valleys, Kingston's PS I Love You and Montréal's Suuns (formerly Zeroes; pronounced "Soons").

Suuns began their North American fall tour a few weeks ago with friends Valleys. "They're like the coolest people and the most amazing band. Ever," Suuns drummer Liam O'Neill gushes over the phone from London, ON. "We have them to keep us warm, but... if we didn't, we'd all be dead right now; frozen to death in the prairies." The two Montréal-based groups have been working their way East from the Pacific, joining with PS I Love You two nights ago. "Paul (Saulnier) is a mega shredder - he's amazing on the guitar; it's crazy," says O'Neill. They're a very, very good live band."
The tour will continue into December, featuring such artists as Chad Van Gaalen, Besnard Lakes, Handsome Furs and Battles, yet somehow the current lineup seems the most fitting. "Valleys is going to melt your heart, PS I Love You is going to melt your face off, and then we're going to kind of congeal everything into a solidified plasticized mass," O'Neill warns.
As for what attendees can expect, it will likely be an exhilarating set of performances. Each group on the bill is known for an impressive live show that simply can't be captured in recording. That's not to say, however, there'll be wild antics; shoegaze got its name for a reason. "Valleys is pretty dead-pan, PS I Love You is incredibly dead-pan - which is really amazing to see Paul play melting shit but he doesn't move at all, and yeah we're kind of animated on stage. We like to get our exercise that way but there's not going to be any fire-breathing or audience participation so you don't have to be nervous," O'Neill explains.
"Just come out! Bring the love - we need it! We need the community around us!" Warmth and cookies would also be appreciated. "It's on our rider actually: warm milk and cookies. That's what we request before every show. We usually just get Molson Canadian. That's fine too."
