Call & Response: Diving Bell

Posted by Greg / November 5, 2011

20111105-DivingBell.jpgCall & Response is a series of Q&As with bands, artists and random people we dig that live in Montreal, visit here, or have some dubious connection to the city. This week we talk to Diving Bell, a local three piece band who play thoughtful music with a cool-rock edge. They recently launched a new website and are playing a show tonight, November 5, at CFC. Remember, remember...

Where is the best place to listen to your music?

Anywhere out of your element but somewhere in your heart. Your bedroom after not getting the love of your life.

Besides family, friends, other music, and long summer nights, what influences your music the most?

Being caught between inspiration and insanity. Summoning explosive emotions. Orgasm and exorcism. Trust and doubt.

Who is your favorite Canadian Artist?

Now: City and Colour

Then: Neil Young (please never die)

Tomorrow: A Canadian version of The Streets (I think Canada could use one)

Now, like NOW now: is Dinosaur Bones Canadian? One of us is pretty into that these days...

Who is your favourite non-Canadian Artist?

Band consensus: probably Radiohead

Non-musician: Louis Ck

Not band consensus: The Smiths

Pretentious answer but some truth to it: Nina Simone or something...

What is the most embarrassing album in your record collection?

Too embarrassing to mention.

What do you love most about Montreal?

It's a tie between cost of living and projectile vomiting after interacting with a savage dose of disparaging wayward hipsters

What do you love most about Poutine?

The possibilities. I heard there's lobster poutine somewhere out there. Why isn't that in my face, like, right now?

What do you hate most about Poutine?

My fat (insert least favourite body parts that gains weight too easily after way too much delicious). Maybe you're not a sugar fiend. MAYBE.

Who was your first live concert?

I can speak for everyone in the band that we're all pretty glad it wasn't some form of Gangsta Rap. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

If your music was a famous historical figure, who would it be and why?

Steve Jobs. Because we want to build good relationships. Fuck with people but not manipulate them.

What's the best way to spend a Million dollars in 10 minutes?

Tough question. Who cares.

What was the best show your band ever played?

The one coming up this Saturday. Come get served at The CFC.

What was the worst show your band ever played?

The one show where we got a critical review.

If you had one wish this holiday season, what would it be?

Looks like another Divingbell record release might happen...
