Record Store Day Exclusive: Hear a new Saxsyndrum cut, pick up one of two copies of their new album
The third Saturday in April is Record Store Day. It's a day for supporting the treasured but endangered ritual of purchasing real recordings from real people in a real place. There shouldn't just be one day for it, but hey, there are plenty of deserving things that don't get a day at all. (Cheese Day, anyone?)
Scores of artists and their labels are joining the festivities by releasing special, limited edition recordings. In some cases this means unimaginable collaborations, in others it means the usual major labor cash grab.
The mind-bending sax & drum duo Saxsyndrum will be releasing their first full-length LP, "Flying Fortress," at our second showcase concert, next Saturday. But the band and Midnight Poutine have a special treat for those interested in hearing it sooner. They have distributed two advance copies of the album to Mile End's beloved record store, Phonopolis. Whoever gets them first, gets them, and whoever doesn't has to wait until Saturday.
Take a first listen to their eminently danceable, funky-as-hell track, "Brave New World," below.
Saxsyndrum will release their album at our showcase concert on April 28 at Jackie & Judy (6512 Ave du Parc) with Midnight Poutine favorites Technical Kidman, BZARYN (formerly Armen at the Bazaar) and Prime Cuts (mem. of TOPS).
