Between The Buried And Me to run Russian Circles around Club Soda this Saturday

20130131-BTBAM.jpgCome Saturday night, Club Soda will be become ground zero for riffs and instrumental explosivity, as a pair of US groups roll into Montreal with two diverse but equally powerful styles on offer. Be advised, a severe air guitar warning will be in effect on St Laurent between St Catherines and Réne-Lévesque.

In the red corner, punching straight of North Carolina, Between the Buried and Me bring an extensive back catalogue and a particularly rabid fanbase out of hiding. A group that have made it a matter of pride to sandwich together as many sounds and influences as possible across the rock and metal spectrum, their live reputation is considerable.

Touring in support of their recent full-length debut for legendary label Metal Blade, the group manage to meld together an impressive concoction. What's on offer includes ambient stylings, 70's prog rock, a sprinkling of jazz and plenty of good old face-ripping metal which combine to produce a heady mix.

Expect plenty of young thrashers rocking out alongside those who have just come to have their jaws drop at the sight of what the band is pulling off onstage. If the sight of fretboards igniting with pure rock fury is your thing - this is a sure ticket.

In the blue corner, hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Russian Circles are well-known to audiences here in Montreal, by this stage almost being post-rock veterans of the circuit.

Their last record, 2011's Empros helped to propel them into much greater consciousness, with a melding of heavyweight guitar and soundscapes that verge on the sublime.

Staunchly sans-vocals, the level of thunderous sound they can emit for a three-piece is pretty frightening.

Blending some wonderfully blissed-out moments with pounding post-metal - while effortlessly retaining attention ain't exactly the easiest thing to do, but the style that Russian Circles bring to the table means that they have a rare touch in this field. A beloved band who will most likely have as many people shouting for them as the headliners.

Providing able support on the night are Montreal's very own Unexpect, who can more than give BTBAM a run for their money with their own kaleidoscopic and unhinged take on metal. The group round off a more than solid evening for those who hunger for riffs in the night.

Between the Buried and Me, Russian Circles and Unexpect play Club Soda this Saturday, February 2nd. Check out the event page here and remember to protect ya neck.
